Don’t set up camp when queuing at the licensing dep
There is nothing wrong with standing in a queue at the traffic licensing station with the duly completed form of another person, but...
POLOKWANE – “It does create a problem when people “set up camp” in front of the building, placing camp chairs in the queue to keep their space in the queue.”
As Polokwane Chief of Traffic, Phineas Malatjie is not allowed to respond directly to media he supplied this response to Municipal Spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene following the article in Review 24-30 March in which clients queuing at the station complained about women who ran errands on other motorists’ behalf as their primary means of income.
The queue is managed by security staff, he said, and not by those queuing on behalf of others, whether for an income or not.
‘Letter from Premier’ prohibits women from offering service
One of the women who queue on others’ behalf, the 74-year-old Annatjie Stassen has been renewing motor vehicle licences and paying traffic fines for 12 years.
She was recently informed by security staff that she would no longer be allowed to do so as there was a letter written by the premier prohibiting her from doing so.
This turned out to be false. Stassen thanked the municipality for clearing up the uncertainties around the issue.
According to Chuene, people could queue on behalf of clients, must take into consideration to help a limited number of people per day.
