LIMPOPO – Public order police are still in the Vuwani area monitoring the situation following the damaged caused on Monday evening by angry residents.
“Police are investigating incidents where four schools, a tribal office, satellite station and a post office were allegedly torched by angry residents in the Levubu policing area near Vuwani,” says provincial police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba.
Five vehicles were also reportedly damaged on the same evening, said Ledwaba.
This follows after Vuwani police opened a case of public violence and malicious damage to property after a police trailer carrying razor wire, a truck and a grader were set alight by angry protesters in Vuwani on Sunday.
“A case of public violence and malicious damage to property was registered, at the Vuwani police station said Lebwaba in an earlier report.
Vuwani residents have vowed to intensify their protest action. They recently made the decision that no community leader would speak on their behalf, after traditional leaders lost the court bid to compel the MDB to reverse its decision to merge their area with Malamulele to form a new municipality.
No arrests have been made in connection with either incident and investigations continue, concluded Ledwaba.
