Vuwani protests: police arrest 15 people

The total number of school which have been affected due to the Vuwani and Levubu protests now totals 22

LIMPOPO – According to a report from the Hlanganani police station in Masakona, two classrooms at Rembuluwani primary school and 8 classrooms at Muvimbi Primary School were burned on Wednesday night, said provincial police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba on Thursday.

“This bring the total number of schools, within the three policing areas, that have been damaged or partially burned to 22.”

The extent and value of the damage is still not known and 15 people have been arrested.

“Cases of arson are being investigated,” concluded Ledwaba.

This follows the burning down of 13 schools in Vuwani earlier this week.

According to the provincial spokesperson for the Department of Education , Dr Naledzani Rasila, a number of schools in villages such as Majozi, Kurhuleni, Mashau, and Masia have lost valuable property such as administration blocks, classrooms, libraries, nutrition centres, and school furniture during the protests.
