Several crime suspects arrested

LIMPOPO – Police at Maake outside Tzaneen arrested a 21-year-old man for the brutal killing of an 80-year-old woman at Madeira village in the Sekororo area last week.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the man attacked the woman in her home which led to her death.

Her body was found in a pool of blood with multiple wounds to the head and body.

Ngoepe said the deceased has been identified as Mpoti Mary Masekane.

Ngoepe explained it is alleged that the suspect accused the deceased of practising witchcraft. The suspect is due to appear in court soon.

• In another case, police in Bolobedu arrested 38 suspects for offences ranging from rape, housebreaking and theft, assault, theft, house robbery, common robbery, public violence, failure to comply with maintenance order, malicious damage to property and contravention of the Liquor Act.

Apart from the Bolobedu social crime personnel’s Bolobedu Community Police Forum, Victim Empowerment Programme and police’s provincial band as well as members from the police’s provincial social crime office, visited two problematic schools around Bolobedu recently to address learners about a crime prevention strategy.

The two schools were Modubatse High in Ga-Kgapane and Sekhwari High school in Sekgothi village where issues such as drug abuse, bullying and the consequences of taking the law into their hands, were discussed.

Police issued a strong warning to learners in the area that they will continue to conduct unannounced visits to deal with the increasing use of drugs at schools.
