Polokwane Police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a Police vehicle allegedly knocked down a 5-year-old boy in Outspan Drive last Thursday.
Police Spokesperson in Polokwane, Lesiba Ramoshaba said the driver of the Police vehicle was travelling down Outspan Drive when a child suddenly ran from one of the premises into the road and right in front of the vehicle.
“The child sustained some injuries and was taken to hospital. We have already obtained statements from the driver as well as one of the crew and are awaiting the statement of another crew member,” Ramoshaba said.
He added that medical reports are also awaited from the parents of the child. “We have visited their house but failed to locate any person. We urge them to get in contact with the Police soonest,” Ramoshaba said.
He said as soon as all statements are taken the docket will be sent to the senior prosecutor. The parents who could not be reached as yet were urged to phone Ramoshaba on 082 728 9835.
