Police constable arrested for corruption

He added that the man was found in possession of counterfeit money worth R500

LIMPOPO – Two men, one of them a police constable stationed in Maake, were arrested by the Hawks yesterday (Thursday) for corruption, defeating the ends of justice,  possession of counterfeit money and impersonation.

“We received information that the constable was in possession of a cellphone that was robbed from a complainant, and he demanded R1 500 from the complainant in order to give him his cellphone. The information was followed and the suspect was arrested at the complainant’s house in Gravellote immediately after receiving the money he demanded,” said Hawks spokesperson, Lt. Matimba Maluleke.

He added that the man was found in possession of counterfeit money worth R500.

His accomplice claimed to work for a company which assists the police to trace stolen cellphones.

They are expected to appear before the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Friday but due to the lack of the prosecutor the case was postponed to Monday 4 July.
