Life sentences for Fatana murderers

2 suspects arrested in connection with the murder were acquitted

MOKOPANE – Two of the four suspects that appeared in the Polokwane High Court for the murder of Gideon Fatana was sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday.

Fatana, a well-known taxi owner, was shot and killed in front of his house in Fourie Street on 27 March 2015.

Thabo Alfred Matlaila, Charles Mogale, Desmond Machaba and Sithole Thomas Makamu Maxane were arrested for the murder of Fatana.

According to Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi: Matlaila (31) and Maxane (36) were found guilty of murder and sentenced to a life behind bars”. Masingi further said: “Machaba and Mogale were acquitted from the case and found not guilty”.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba welcomed the sentence and congratulated the team of detectives whose sterling investigative work which resulted in the sentence.
