POLOKWANE – Police are on the lookout for a 28-year-old man involved in the theft of a vehicle from the Westvaal car dealership in the city.
The man was last seen leaving the dealership in a stolen Ford Ranger on 25 May this year. According to used car Sales Manager, Mark Barnes, the man came into the dealership and said he was looking to buy a car.
The man said his father paid R285 000 into the company’s bank account and after he produced proof of payment, he was handed the keys to the vehicle and drove off.
“We later discovered that the cheque used to make the payment for the vehicle did not clear and the account it was paid from was closed,” Barnes told Review.
Barns says the possibility of the sales representative being involved in the theft is being investigated.
After undergoing a lie detector test consisting of 24 questions, it was found that one of the sales representatives failed to answer nine of the questions truthfully.
A case of theft was opened. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the man in question can contact the Polokwane Police at 015 290 6531 or Westvaal car dealership at (015) 000 8610.
