LIMPOPO – The men were assaulted with bricks and sticks for hours after they were apprehended by an angry mob.
“We must castrate them before we kill them. We are tired of criminal elements in our community. The police are not wanted here. All criminals must learn a lesson from what we are going to do with these two,” said one of the residents who did not want her name published.
Residents accused the men of the theft of a silver Volkswagen Polo at one of the shebeens in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The vehicle was stripped of its sound system.
“The community became angry as several houses were recently broken into and people lost their valuables. They are tired of criminals,” said a community leader who did not want his name published. Police came to the rescue of the two men and calmed down furious residents who refused for the two to be taken into police custody. Const Boitumelo Matlala, Motetema Police Spokesperson, confirmed a case of theft out of a motor vehicle was opened at the station but said no one was arrested. Police appealed to the community to not take the law into their own hands.
