Drug dealer nabbed as part of school safety programme

Provincial Commissioner General Ledwaba encouraged all citizens of Limpopo to continue giving this type of quality information to the Police as the fight against crime

LIMPOPO – Implementation of the school safety programme in and around the learning environment in Limpopo has yielded good results after a sting joint special operation, yesterday, led by the Provincial Commissioner, LT. General Nneke Ledwaba and the Provincial Head of crime prevention, Brig. Machuene’ Mokgonyana, together with the Crime Intelligence and crime prevention members, arrested a notorious criminal who had been selling dagga and drugs to the local high school learners.

The information was given to the Provincial Commissioner during his stakeholder engagement where he was told that learners at Maimane High School at Hwelereng village in Ga-Mphahlele outside Lebowakgomo were always intoxicated, violent and uncontrollable, especially after breaks. That is what led Ledwaba to initiate this operation in which a large amount of packets and boxes of dagga inside the suspect’s house was recovered.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and will be appearing before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate Court on charges of dealing and possession of dagga said provincial police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The Provincial Commissioner then visited the school where he addressed learners about the danger of crime activities including the use of drugs.

General Ledwaba would like to thank community members and the Department of Education for exposing the criminal and keeping the well-being of learners in mind. He encouraged all citizens of Limpopo to continue giving this type of quality information to the Police as the fight against crime, especially in and around the schooling environment continues.
