Local beauty queen to represent SA in the City of Lights

Local beauty, Caitlin Harty is heading to the City of Lights to represent South Africa in the Miss Grand International pageant in Las Vegas.

POLOKWANE – People first started to take notice of this talented beauty when she won the Miss Teen Letaba pageant several years ago and since then her career has blossomed.

She later became better known when she was crowned the Face of Savannah. Her most recent endeavour will be the Miss Grand International in October.

“I’ve been in front of the camera pretty much my whole life, doing pageants and and attending modelling classes from an early age. Winning the Miss Teen Letaba pageant sealed the deal for me that this is what I want to do,” she explains.

Caitlin matriculated from Stanford Lake College and studied drama at the University of Pretoria. Last year she received a scholarship to study acting for film at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles where she graduated at the top of her class at the end of the year. Since winning the Miss Grand South Africa pageant, she is living in Pretoria to prepare for the upcoming Miss Grand International pageant alongside her team. She traded her modelling school for an agent although she still recommends attending a modelling school when you first start out as a model.

She explains that although a modelling school is important when you first start out, an agent is more important when you are a better known name in the industry to negotiate work contracts for you.

“I am a very passionate person, I put my heart and soul into everything I do and say. I’m super positive and I believe that laughter is the best medicine. I love communicating with people and do everything with confidence and a smile,” she says. “I love to chat, so I’m often just chatting with my friends and family who are very important to me. I’m a real girly-girl so I love pampering myself and staying active to keep fit and healthy.”

Caitlin explains the most difficult part for her about being a model is to not compare herself to others or to doubt her own ability as a model.

“Once you learn to love yourself and you can embrace who you are, nothing can get you down. I find being in front of the camera is really easy and really fun, whether it is on the ramp or during a photoshoot. Not everyone you meet will love you, but the camera always will,” she explains.

She says if she was not a model, she would definitely be an actress. “Acting is my main passion in life. I hope to be a successful actress one day above anything else, it has always been a dream of mine.”

She says she looks forward to being an outstanding ambassador for South Africa during the upcoming Miss Grand International, making both her country and her home province, Limpopo, proud.

“I love sharing my memories with people about my upbringing in Limpopo. I am a proud South African and nothing will make me happier than to be able to represent this country and show the world how great our country is and how much I love it here.”

Her father, Alan, is proud of his daughter’s achievements and is excited about her latest opportunity to showcase her natural beauty. “Caitlin has always been motivated to excel and has done well in all the competitions she took part in. We were delighted and proud at her Miss Grand South Africa win, not only because of the magnitude of the pageant, but because she will represent South Africa on an international stage,” he says.
