Rapist sentenced to life for rape

A 34-year-old man from the Phalaborwa area was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and a further five years for housebreaking and theft by the Lulekani Regional Court yesterday (Wednesday).

LIMPOPO – In 2011 Nathaniel Malatjie of Lulekani broke into a house and raped a 16-year-old girl and stole money. In 2012 he was arrested after committing another rape.

Dedicated detectives from the  Phalaborwa FCS linked him to the crime committed in 2011 said police spokesperson, Lt, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“The complainant in the 2012 case later withdrew the charges against Malatjie.”

This sentence was welcomed by SAPS management: “It will serve as a deterrent to all the rapists that crime does not pay”.
