Matsemela’s first address as new Mogalakwena mayor

MOKOPANE – In her first address as mayor, Matsemela said: “First and foremost, we apologise to the community of Mogalakwena at large for the events that took place in the previous council term. The newly elected council is confident that if the Mogalakwena Municipality community, administrators, officials, civic organisations and government stakeholders all work together; we will not relive past events.

“I have no doubt that by working together, we will better the lives of the people in our community. We look forward to resolving existing issues and we commit to improving the quality of basic service delivery.”

She further said she is truly grateful to the ANC for the responsibility they have bestowed upon her in leading the community of Mogalakwena to greater heights.

Matsemela said the people have spoken, they have voiced their needs and expectations and she looks forward to delivering quality services for the duration of her term in office.

“We recognise the contributions of our predecessors in building a strong and vibrant municipality,” she added.

She said she will place high value on the principles of participatory democracy, collective leadership and acceptance of criticism.

“These are the core aspects in ensuring that the values of Ubuntu, selflessness, sacrifice and accountability are among the guiding tools in the administration of the affairs of this council.

“The mandate we received from the community is that we need to create employment opportunities for both young and old. This can only be achieved by making the most of economically viable opportunities within our midst. Taking bold decisions that will enhance our economic leverage without compromising the existing opportunities is our aim. We are here to serve the people and will not rest until we achieve our goals,” Matsemela concluded.
