Animal remains pile up; no arrests yet
A few weeks ago, Review reported that the carcasses of wild animals had been dumped next to the railway tracks close to a smallholding in the region of Veldspaat Street. At the time, the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (Ledet) confirmed an investigation was underway.
POLOKWANE – This week Review learned of more carcasses dumped in the same area.
Buckles Napo, Spokesperson for the department, confirmed they sent an investigation team to take samples of the carcasses and established the dumping is likely the result of illegal hunting or taxidermy. “We sent the samples for forensic tests and we now await the results. We are however, dependent on eye witnesses as we are still in the dark about where these carcasses came from,” Napo said.
