Educators get active to promote health and wellness at Fun Day
Educators from nine circuits in Mogalakwena participated in a Fun Day hosted by Mogalakwena Wellness Coordinator, Christina Mamashela and a committee led by Chairperson, Rosina Nkhumane, on 11 August at the Charles Marakalala Stadium in Bakenberg.
MOKOPANE – The educators took part in various activities including running, morabaraba and many more.
Nkumane emphasised the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, saying
“If you exercise on a regular basis, you minimize your chance of suffering from high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, diabetes and many other illnesses.”
The event was supported by elite guests including representatives from the Department of Sports and Recreation, the Traffic Department, Emergency and Medical Services, Circuit managers, school principals and members from the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) and the Professional Educators Union (PEU).
Albert Mokgawa, known as Bra Ally by his allies at Paledi Secondary School, out ran all the other participants; including the junior’s half his age in the 8 km race and clinched the title as Inaugural Mogalakwena District Educators Male Champion.
Johanna Papo from Baltimore was crowned as the female champion in the same race. Christian Boshomane and Khomotjo Kgomo from Matlalane went head-to-head for the winning title in the 5 km men’s walk. Boshomane crossed the finish line first and won a gold medal with Kgomo taking second place. Priscilla Seabela from Potties Circuit showed she is a force to be reckoned with and easily won the 5 km women’s walk.
The day ended on a cheerful note as all of the educators participated in an aerobics class. Deputy Chairperson of Mogalakwena Wellness Phuti Ngoepe, thanked everyone who took part in the event.
