Five nabbed ‘rhino poachers’ remain in custody

The SAPS Stock Theft Unit arrested five suspected rhino poachers in Gravelotte near Phalaborwa on Monday, say the police.

LIMPOPO – The suspects, aged between 32 and 50-years-old, were arrested  for the possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition and conspiracy to commit rhino poaching at Makalale Game Farm in the Gravelotte area says provincial police spokesperson, Moatshe Ngoepe.

“They were found to be in possession of one 375 hunting rifle with silencer, nine 375 rounds, 357 revolver with 25 rounds, and axe, nine cellphones and vehicle with a GP registration,” adds Ngoepe.

The suspects Nathaniel Mokwena (44) from Witbank in Mpumalanga, Alone Mafumadi (35) from Nkowankowa outside Tzaneen , Leonard Shikwambana (27) from Julesburg Village outside Tzaneen, Anton Ndlovu (34) from Mozambique and Albert Ngobeni (43) from Mafarana village outside Tzaneen apepared before the Namakgale Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday) and their cases were remanded until today 21 September 2016 for bail application.

Police investigation continue concludes Ngoepe.
