Police Imbizo revelry
Hundreds of residents, members of the police, religious leaders and members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) joined in the festivities of the Imbizo to raise awareness against crime last Friday at the Mapela stadium.
LIMPOPO – The Imbizo was hosted by the police and among the elite guests were the Provincial Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba, and Mogalakwena Municipality Mayor, Andrina Matsemela.
Various stakeholders and community representatives came together on the day to address the burning issues regarding crime, and drug and substance abuse.
“We welcome the visit of Lt Genl Ledwaba, as this area has been affected by a number of challenges regarding criminal activities. Such as the shocking incident where two suspects were arrested for allegedly killing and beheading a woman.
“We applaud the men and women in blue for their efforts that led to the swift arrest of these suspects,” Matsemela said.
“As parents we must keep our streets free from drugs and our children away from criminal activities. One of the biggest challenges the community faces is that of nyaope abuse. All of us, parents, educators, community partners and, most importantly, our youth themselves, have a part to play in this effort.”
Matsemela encouraged the community to commemorate heritage month with the promotion of human dignity in their minds whilst upholding the good value systems embodied in various cultures.
Mahwelereng Police Spokesperson, Const Sello Leso, said: “It was a fantastic event and we greatly appreciate the support. We urge the communities to work with us to win this war against crime”.
