‘Municipal jobs are not for sale’

The municipality sent out a warning regarding a scam involving municipal internship opportunities.

POLOKWANE – They say someone who claims to be an employee of the municipality has been contacting youths informing them that they have been selected for a municipal internship. However, an amount of R500 needs to be paid upfront for a medical certificate and they money is payable via cash send at a popular franchise clothing store.

A number of people have fallen victim to the scam as the municipality recently advertised internship positions and the victims therefore assumed the phone call they received from the scammers was in fact from the municipality.

The municipality put it on record that municipal jobs, including internships, are not for sale.

The municipality will refer the matter to the police for investigations.
