POLOKWANE – Judges Francois du Plessis from Goseame and Gavin Nel had their work cut out to determine the eventual winners.
Nguni Grill owner Hannes Willemse and his brother, Johan, also assisted with the tasting of the mouth-watering recipes presented by the 15 entries on the day.
Results of the competition:
Katryn Barwise and her grandmother, Truida Jansen were crowned the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King champions. The winning team was also awarded the prize for the Best Main Course of the competition.
Father Hans Barwise and daughter Karmen took second place and Riaan Rudolph and his braai partner De Wet Conradie took third place in the overall standings.
The winners in the dessert category were Charl Celliers and Gert Jooste.
They might not have won the dessert category of the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King competition, but grandmother Truida Jansen and grandchild Katryn Barwise did manage to win the main course category and went on to be crowned as the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King winners.
Sasha-Lee Willemse and Theo Janse van Rensburg teamed up for the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King contest on Saturday.
Katryn Barwise and her grandmother, Truida Jansen joined the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King competition as a team, and emerged as the winners. With them shortly after the prize-giving are on the left, judges Francois du Plessis and Gavin Nel with Nguni Grill owner, Hannes Willemse on the right.
Staff from Review attended the braai competition and were recognised by their Bonus Review branded shirts. With judge Francois du Plessis, Hannes Willemse (owner of Nguni Grill) and judge Gavin Nel, are Northern Media Group Marketing Manager, Karen Botha and Sales Representative, Helene Short.
The third place overall prize in the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King competition went to Riaan Rudolph and De Wet Conradie. With them are judges Francois du Plessis and Gavin Nel with Hannes Willemse, owner of Nguni Grill and Family Restaurant.

“I wish I can get a chance to taste.” Laurie Lottering, daughter of participant Francois, literally licking her lips in anticipation of having a taste of the dessert while the judges are busy doing their round of tasting. Her patience paid off and she did get her bite of the dessert, which carried her full approval.

A total of 15 teams entered for the 2016 Nguni Grill Braai King title on Saturday.
