LIMPOPO – Three armed men burgled and tied up an elderly couple on their smallholding outside Mookgophong last night (Tuesday).
Ben Engelbrecht, a Heritage Protection Group (HPG) member said the burglars gained entrance to the property by climbing over a palisade fence. “They found the elderly man in his garden at around 20:00 and overpowered him. They also managed to overpower and subdue the man’s wife when she stopped at the house, as well as a security guard,” Engelbrecht said.
Deputy Officer Barend van Wyk said besides the couple and the guard, four other people were tied up.
Engelbrecht further said the group only managed to free themselves at around 03:00 this morning (Wednesday), after which they immediately called him for help. According to Engelbrecht, the wife was struck across the face and the couple is still in shock.
The burglars made away with a TV and three cell phones amoung other things. The HPG tracked the burglars trail to a tarred road from where they fled in a vehicle.
Van Wyk said investigations are ongoing.
