Government vehicle hijacked: victim forced into boot

Police in Letsitele outside Tzaneen have launched a manhunt for three unknown armed suspects who hijacked a government vehicle on Tuesday, 11 October.

LIMPOPO:According to a statement issued by LT Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged that a Department of Nature Conservation and Wildlife vehicle was travelling along the Tarentaal and Bushveld road when a white VW Polo with a Mpumalanga registration overtook the vehicle, stopped in front of it and two of the three suspects jumped out of the Polo and pointed their firearms at the driver of the government vehicle.

The driver, a 57-year-old man, was pulled out of the vehicle and pushed into the boot. The hijackers drove away and only stopped outside Ndahambe village, close to Giyani, where they tied the driver to a tree.

They fled the scene in the government vehicle, a white Toyota 4×4 with number plate GCB 497 L, and stole the driver’s 9mm parabellum firearm with 10 rounds of ammunition, two cell phones, cash, a machete, safe keys and a grey jersey.

No arrests have been made and police investigations are ongoing. The police urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Captain Masilu Notoane at 082 469 0900 or visit the nearest police station or to call the 24h Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.
