Tour around Town set to clean up Mokopane

The following areas were visited and solutions discussed:

MOKOPANE – The Mokopane Business Chamber had their Tour Around Town on 27 September, where they were joined by the Ward Councillors for Ward 31 & 32, Korny Dekker and Yolandé Coetzee and various department heads of the Mogalakwena Municipality. Andy Goetsch, President of the Business Chamber, wish to thank the Municipality for their willingness to work together to improve the town’s image and living standards.

The following areas were visited and solutions discussed:

Technical Services (Water & Sanitation):

• The leak and pavement at 40 Thabo Mbeki Drive will be repaired.

• The area at Fruit and Veg City will be rehabilitated and the stones will be moved in front of the water hydrant.

• An order will be given through to the Roads Department to repair the road at 97 Ruiter Street.

• An order will be given through to Roads Department to repair the sidewalk on the corner of Ruiter and Kruger Street.

• The pavement in front of Woolworths in Thabo Mbeki Drive as well as the pavement at 118 Pretorius Street will be repaired.

• The broken manhole in Van Heerden and Nelson Mandela Drive will be attended to and the water valve in Pretorius Street will be repaired.

• A lid will be made for the open water valve on the corner of Bonsmara and Sussex Street.

• A temporary safety barrier will be placed around the manhole in Hooge Street behind Spar.

• The water leak on the corner of Hooge and De Klerk Street will be repaired as well as the leak on the corner of HF Verwoerd and Amatis Street.

• The open manhole on the corner of Goud and Kobalt Street will be closed.

Technical Services (Roads & Transport):

• Measurements have been taken to repair the pavement in Hooge Street behind Spar as well as at Rabé 132 and 134.

• Crack seal will be applied to the cracks in Smarag Street.

• Repairs for the stormwater drains in Thabo Mbeki Drive across Hoërskool Piet Potgieter will be included in an upcoming project.

• A contractor has been appointed to attend to the bump in the road on the corner of Geyser and Thabo Mbeki Drive.

• The bushes surrounding Akasia will be cleared by the Technical Services Department.

• The broken and damaged road signs in Extension 12 will be repaired.

Electrical Department:

The electrical meter box at 11 Asbestos Street will be fixed as soon as possible. The broken electrical boxes in extension 12 will be repaired as soon as residents in.

The Electrical Department informed the chamber that a tree trimming project will start next week to ensure that all electrical cables are open.

Community Services:

• At 130 Rabé Street the roots of a tree are causing the cement to lift, this issue will be addressed and the bushes in the road at Rabe Street 130 to 136 and in Fourie Street will be cleared.

• In Extension 12 the roads and surrounding areas will be cleared and the illegal dumping will be attended to.

• The rubbish on empty properties in Asbestos and Smarag Street will be cleared.

It was requested that proper signs be erected at all the dumping sites to warn trespassers that they will be fined.

• The fence at the Van van Rensburg Hall will be repaired.

Development & Planning:

•An investigation has been launched to find the owner of the property on the corner of De Klerk and Hooge Street and he will be informed to clear the rubbish or the Community and Technical Services team will clear the area and bill the owner.

The owners of the empty properties in Asbestos, Smarag and van Heerden Street will be contacted and they will be informed to clear their yards.

•The property opposite the Abattoir – An investigation will be done to see who the owner is of the property and he will be instructed to clean the area.

General:

The entrance from Pretoria – Ideas will be formulated to attend to the growing problems relating to the hawkers and the sanitation in this area.

The fence at the entrance of town – The Municipality takes note of the fence and will see how it can be replaced or repaired

Political posters – A letter will be sent from Corporate Services to the relevant parties to remove their posters.

Tennis courts at Van van Rensburg Hall – The Business Chamber and the Municipality will work together on a suitable project.

Swimming Pool – The Business Chamber and the Municipality will work together on a suitable project.
