Robbed, beaten, stabbed and left for dead

Residents of Greenside and Seshego are living in fear after a third man was attacked, beaten, stabbed and left for dead on Sunday 16 October.

POLOKWANE –  The latest victim, Phillip Matleke, was walking home from a shop in Seshego on Sunday evening at around 20:00 when the incident occurred.

“My wife had sent me to the shop, I was walking out of the shop when two men approached me. I can’t even remember what they asked me, all I know is one moment they were talking to me and the next, they were on top of me, hitting me. I was stabbed and lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was very far from the store; lying in water near the Greenside dam,” Matleke told Review. He says when he came to, he was surrounded by a small crowd of people who called an ambulance.

“I passed out again when I was put into the ambulance,” he continued. Matleke was rushed to hospital and only regained consciousness in the hospital. There he was told he was heavily beaten and stabbed three times in the back and once in the head. The assailants took R100, his shoes, clothing and his old cell phone.

“These people left me for dead. They wanted to kill me. But God spared my life so I can warn other people.” Matleke said.

According to the doctors at the hospital, Matleke is in recovery and they are waiting for the swelling to go down for further testing to see what damage there may be to his kidney.
