Bus torched during unrest at Venetia Diamond Mine

Public Order Policing members are on the scene to monitor situation

LIMPOPO – A case of malicious damage to property has been opened following the torching of a bus during what is said to be an ongoing illegal strike at the De Beers Venetia mine over night.

According to police reports a Volkswagen Crafter Bus was was set alight at the Basil Reed Bus Depot near Alldays at a round 23:45 the previous evening. Nobody was injured during the incident.

The situation around the mine is currently quiet but Public Order Policing members are on the scene to monitor says Provincial Police Spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.

No arrests have been made as yet. Investigations continue.
