A joint operation comprised of various Police detective units and led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner on Crime Detection Linda Bafana was conducted at various problematic areas throughout the province on Friday until Tuesday morning and yielded good success with 288 suspects arrested.
According to provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe the operation involved members from the General Detectives Unit, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, Stock Theft Unit and the Cluster Detectives Task Teams.
“During the operation 288 suspects aged between 20 and 48 years old were arrested for various crimes ranging from armed robberies, house robberies, theft, housebreaking, rape, assault, theft of motor vehicles and carjacking,” Ngoepe said.
He added that operation Thatha Zonke is an ongoing operation which will be running throughout the Festive Season.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba applauded the units for the major breakthrough in the fight against crime.
He further encouraged members involved in Thatha Zonke to continue cleaning all the streets by bringing criminals to book without compromise.
The suspects will be appearing before different courts throughout the province soon.
