Racist rumours concerning Engen policies spread like wildfire
A post on social media post has been circulating, asking people not to support Engen filling stations as they, allegedly, only sell franchises to non-white people.
POLOKWANE β An Engen filling station franchise owner in the city told Review the post is a hoax and that the claims are unfounded. He says the same rumours surfaced in 2002, because of the ration of white to non-white station owners. βAt this time, there were only white businessmen and many of them sold their filling stations to non-white people,” he explains.
He added that as a franchise owner, he has an agreement with Engen in which he will give them the option to buy his filling station from him first and if they are not interested, he then has the option to sell to someone else.
Cindy-Lee Maneveld, Communications Executive of Engen confirmed there are no truth to the story and that people should ignore the post.
