Police captain assault: Rossouw out on bail
Karel Johannes Rossouw (31) appeared in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of attempted murder, robbery and crimen injuria.
POLOKWANE – He was arrested after the alleged brutal attack of an off-duty police captain, George Theme (56), at a local shopping centre on 26 December 2016.
According to an earlier police statement: “the incident started with an argument which led to the assault… the suspect allegedly overpowered the officer, grabbed his official firearm and threatened to shoot him. A passerby managed to grab the firearm from the suspect but the suspect continued to assault the officer until he was unconscious,” according to Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
“Due to his injuries, Theme was airlifted to a hospital in Pretoria where he is said to be in a stable condition,” he added.
Rossouw is currently out on bail and is set to reappear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on 28 February.
