Drunk drivers nabbed in Mankweng
The motorists are to appear before the court once their blood work results are back from the testing centre, says the police
POLOKWANE – A total of nine people were arrested in the Mankweng area for drunken driving on Saturday, 17 February.
The area is notorious for its high hit-and-run and vehicles accident rate, this according to Mankweng Police Spokesperson, Sgt Mosima Makgaba.
“During the weekend, most people go to parties, night clubs and shebeens and drink themselves to a stupor. This is the main reason why most people get involved in accidents. We are seriously discouraging people from drinking and driving,” Makgaba said.
He stated that if motorists want to drink, they must ensure there is a designated driver at hand to get them home safely. She further said the nine motorists arrested on Saturday evening will appear in court once their blood work results are back from the testing centre and their punishment will be determined by the results of the level of alcohol in their system on the night in question.
