LIMPOPO – Jana Roets (37) is set to stand trial for the murder of police officer Doepie du Plessis of Zebediela Police Station.
Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said Roets appeared in the Zebediela Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 5 July and was denied bail.
According to earlier reports, the police were called out to the smallholding of Doepie and Roets on 2 March, where they found the house ablaze. Doepie was trapped in the main bedroom and had sustained serious injuries and could not be revived. Roets was arrested and charged with murder.

Before her previous court appearance and bail application, Jana showed Bosveld the burn wound scars on her forearms she has sustained during the fire. “I wanted to pull him out of the burning house, but the smoke overwhelmed me and I could not save him,” she told Bosveld.
Her case was transferred to the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court from 10 to 13 October, concluded Ngoepe.
