LIMPOPO -It is alleged a group of about 500 people pursued the 41-year-old man until they caught and severely assaulted him near the river at Ntwane village before pushing his body into the stagnant water. The deceased was suspected of stealing TVs and blankets in the village, said Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
Police divers were summoned to retrieve the deceased’s body from the water. The name of victim will be released once next of kin have been informed.
“We are again reiterating a call to the residents of Limpopo to desist from engaging in acts of vigilantism and mob justice. Information on crime must be given to the police to investigate. The police will arrest anyone who makes himself or herself guilty of mob killing.”
No arrests have been made as yet and the police are investigating a case of mob justice, added Mojapelo.
