An estimated 2000 hectares were destroyed in the Waterberg District.

LIMPOPO – Working on Fire (WOF) team members had a busy start to the week as they battled raging fires in the Waterberg District.
According to WoF Spokesperson Matema Ngwangwa, over 100 WOF firefighters were dispatched yesterday (Monday) to suppress the raging fires in the Welgevonden area, where an estimated 2000 hectares had already been destroyed.

“The vegetation in the area is very dry which makes it very easy to burn and this increases the chance of the wildfires spreading further. To prevent further devastation, the team worked throughout the night and conducted a back burn to control the raging fires. These fires were successfully brought under control in the early hours of this morning,” she said.
Spokesperson Matema Ngwangwa gives an update on the current situation:
“Our fire fighters have been trained vigorously in fire suppression and we do believe that they will conquer all the wildfires that occur in the province.”
