Eight deceased from horrific R555 collision identified

Ten people died and seven seriously injured after a collision between a bakkie and a taxi along the R555 next the De Hoop Dam near Roossenekal on Sunday afternoon at around 15:30.

LIMPOPO – Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said eight of the deceased, which include five men and three women, have been identified.

They are Norman Modipi (37), Lawrence Modipi (37), Lydia Mafologela (45), Selatole Obed Mmekwa (30), Phumi Mashilangako (26), Stephina Ntobeng (62), Johannah Mafete (56), and William Manning (31).

An elderly woman as well as the 2-year-old child have not yet been identified and the police appeal to residents who have any information to contact Capt Thobejane on 0825657136 or 0860010111, Seabi concluded.

LIMPOPO – Ten people died and seven seriously injured after a collision between a bakkie and a taxi along the R555 next the De Hoop Dam near Roossenekal on Sunday afternoon at around 15:30.

Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said, preliminary investigations revealed that the one vehicle made a u-turn and collided with the second vehicle which was traveling in the opposite direction.

“Of the 16 occupants in the taxi, eight people including a 2-year-old girl were killed and seven were injured. All injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.”

The names of the deceased will be divulged after the next of kin have been informed, he concluded.
