LIMPOPO – Only three out of the 12 people who were killed on the N1-28 near Botlowka on Thursday evening were positively identified by their families, says the police.

Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepes says Salphina Muleya (44), Temsem Zerfu (38 male), Barbra Dhendere (43 female) have been identified by family members.

“A fourth deceased, a 44-year-old man and driver of the combi, has been identified by the family but DNA confirmation is still pending,” he added.

The remaining eight deceased are still unknown and anyone who can assist the Police with their identification is urged to go to Botlokwa Police Station and see Captain Nkuna.

Accident near Botlokwa leaves 12 dead after taxi avoids donkey

LIMPOPO – It is understood on Thursday night, 2 November, a Toyota Quantam, travelling south to north on the N1-28 near Botlokwa, tried to avoid a donkey in the road and collided head on with a truck.

According to the Department of Transport, the Quantam caught fire and 11 people were killed while 3 others were seriously injured. 1 passenger later died in hospital

According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe: “Eleven people travelling in the Toyota Quantam died instantly. Three survived with serious injuries and they were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, however, one later later died.

The other two victims are still recuperating in the hospital and the driver of the truck sustained no injuries.

Department of Health spokesperson, Thabiso Teffo says emergency personnel were deployed immediately and the seriously injured passengers and driver of the truck were transported to various hospitals.

The MEC for Transport, Makoma Makhurupetje will, today, visit the two hospitals, Pietersburg Provincial Hospital and Botlokwa, were the patients were taken, as well as the accident scene.
