Concerned members of the Winrainbow branch of the African National Congress (ANC) in Ward 19 in Polokwane have approached the Peter Mokaba Regional leadership on the election of a branch executive scheduled for tonight (Thursday), following a demand for an early annual general meeting reportedly not materialising.
Last week Polokwane Observer reported that disgruntled members wanted another Branch Executive Committee (BEC) to be elected, a demand made during an earlier meeting. At the same meeting a delegate was appointed to represent them at the organisation’s national elective conference in Gauteng next weekend.
In a letter to the Secretary of the ANC in Peter Mokaba Region dated last Wednesday and reportedly submitted two days later, members referred to the meeting of 1 November – attended by 172 members in good standing – that led to the call for an early Branch Annual General Meeting (BAGM) due to a motion of no confidence in the current BEC. “At the BGM (Branch General Meeting) of 1 November 2017 after discussions between the BEC and the membership in attendance, the BEC was given a mandate to call a BAGM on 29 November. The mandate given to the BEC was supported by all 172 members present at the meeting.
“The early BAGM to elect new leadership as mandated by branch members failed to take place today, 29 November 2017. No branch member has been notified as to the reason for this failure to execute a branch mandate that is in line with (the) ANC Constitution.”
In the letter the region was originally requested to send a member of its executive as a deployee to oversee and conduct an early BAGM in Westenburg on Tuesday evening. However, in a follow-up letter on Tuesday the invitation was extended for tonight.
