One suspect fatally wounded during shoot-out with police at Jane Furse liquor outlet

LIMPOPO – One suspect was shot and killed during a shootout with the police during an attempted business robbery at a store in Jane Furse this morning (Monday).

The incident occurred at around 02:00 when a group of armed suspects attempted to enter the premises of a local liquor outlet.

“It is alleged the suspects held the security guards at gunpoint, however when they attempted to enter the building a shoot-out occurred between themselves and the owner of the said store,” said Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

“The police were called in and on arrival a second cross-fire ensued between the suspects and the police until one suspect was shot and killed. The remaining suspects fled the scene empty handed.”

No police officers were injured however a witness was shot and injured and is being treated at a local hospital, he added.

A firearm believed to be one of the weapons used by the suspects during this incident was also recovered on the scene, confirmed Mojapelo.

The identity of the deceased as well as the remaining suspects is still unknown at this stage.
