Learner (18) in court for alleged stabbing of fellow classmate

An 18 -year-old high school learner appeared in the Senwabarwana Magistrates Court on Thursday for the recent alleged stabbing of a fellow learner, the police confirmed on Friday morning.

LIMPOPO – The suspect appeared on a charge of murder and was remanded in custody until 2 March 2018 for a formal bail application.

According to Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said it is alleged the deceased, a Gr 9 learner, was stabbed with a sharp instrument by the suspect during a heated argument on the school grounds in the Malebogo Policing area on Wednesday. The suspect was immediately arrested and the victim was taken to a local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival.

Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned these acts of violence which are still prevalent in some Limpopo schools in the most strongest terms.

“Parents and guardians alike are encouraged to ensure that all school going children are unarmed to prevent this type of incident from happening. Schools are expected to be a safe and secured learning environment without any act of violence or criminality,” concluded General Scheepers.
