Lights will remain on, says Modimolle- Mookgophong Mayor

Eskom will no longer institute the planned power outages in Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality.

LIMPOPO – Marlene Van Staden, Mayor of Modimolle- Mookgophong, says this follows a court order granted in terms of section 152 of the Municipal Finance Management Act, 56 of 2003.

“Our main priority remains stabilising the finances of the Municipality in order to achieve the punctual payment of our creditors, as well as to ensure that we improve service delivery and invest in our critical infrastructure.

“I want to thank all the role players who made this possible and implore residents to please pay their municipal accounts on time.”

To celebrate this victory Van Staden witness the connection of 500 homes of extension 13 in Phagameng to the municipality’s electricity grid last Friday.” The area has been under-serviced in the past, but with money made available through the Integrated National Electrification Programme 500 families can now enjoy the benefits of safe and reliable energy.”

Making sure that residents of the municipality are connected to basic services and ensuring that these services are stable and affordable is one of the Mayor’s top priorities. In the next financial year the municipality plans to install water and sewerage to the same homes in extension 13 and a further 500 homes will be connected to the electricity grid.

Van Staden also distributed 150 energy efficient 6 watt LED light bulbs thanks to a generous donation from Bera’s Hardware and Builder’s Discount in Modimolle. “I would like to thank these businesses for their support, together we can make a difference in our towns.”
