POLOKWANE – With the hum of a motorcycle, the wind whipping past and the open road, these women are at their happiest.
As Women’s Month comes to a close, Review had a sterling opportunity to talk to women who have a deep-set love for motorcycles.
They all agree that nothing quite compares to feeling the rush of freedom and excitement when taking on the open road on a motorcycle and recommend it for all women as it is a liberating and empowering experience.
Debbie Mouton has surely but steadily grown her love for riding motorcycles over the past six years and says she loves it because ‘it is just oneness with your Creator’. “It brings you close to God and makes you thankful for everything.”
Michelle van der Merwe have been riding motorcycles for 35 years and she says she loves it because it helps her get close to nature and clear her head and to get to know the country.
Biking is part of who Annelise de Jager is and it has been so for the past 10 years. “I love riding a motorcycle as it gives me the opportunity to connect with people and nature. You experience things in nature a lot differently on a motorcycle than in a car.”
Liezel Twa has been riding motorcycles for 12 years and she says she loves it becauseit is her and the motorcycle and on a long trip it is like they become one.
Joyce van Niekerk has been a biker for five years. “I love riding my motorcycle as it is an experience like no other.
Gaynor Marais has been riding motorcycles for 18 years, loving it for the freedom it gives which words can never fully describe, the only way you will understand is when you ride a bike yourself.
With nearly two decades of riding bliss to her name, Chantelle Scott says the past 18 years as a biker has given her a great opportunity to meet new people and make good friends.
Teresa Janse van Rensburg has been riding motorcycles for five years and she loves it because she can connect with her bike and the Creator. “When I’m on the bike, it is just me, myself and my helmet.”
With a love affair for motorcycles spanning 18 years, Annalie Jacobs, describes biking as a for of therapy for her. “I love arranging trips for girls to get together and enjoy motorbiking as women.”
