The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo reserves the right to press disciplinary charges against its suspended Provincial Secretary, Gilbert Kganyago, if the investigation into the VBS Mutual Bank saga would produce clear evidence against him. In the meantime he has been given the opportunity to clear his name following last week’s Provincial Executive Committee’s (PEC) decision to suspend him with immediate effect.
Reiterating the view of the provincial structure executive, SACP Limpopo spokesperson Machike Thobejane said Kganyago’s suspension would last as long as it took for law enforcement agencies to investigate the VBS saga or for him to clear his name. He explained that Kganyago, who was given time to exonerate himself independently and separately, could choose any of various options to do so, including obtaining legal advice on taking the damning “The Great Bank Heist” report on review.
He added that by virtue of Kganyago being the provincial party head his position made it difficult for the structure in Limpopo to continue its fight against corruption while he occupied that position.
Thobejane said the SACP maintained its call on all leaders who got deployed to positions to behave themselves in a manner befitting the office they were occupying.
It was learnt that Kganyago’s First Deputy Secretary, Goodman Miteleni was appointed by the PEC of the SACP in Limpopo to take over the party reins during the period of suspension.
