Students opt to get holiday jobs to gain experience in the work place
For most holidays are meant to be a time to relax whether its work from school or from one's career, but for these two varsity students Makgosha Dikgale (a first year student in Teaching at UNISA) and Lerato Chere (a Computer Science student from the University of Limpopo).
POLOKWANE – The two young women are using this time to gain experience in the working environment as well as earn some extra pocket money. “Since I was in high school I wanted to work part time to earn some money to contribute to some of the needs at home. My parents were however highly against the idea and advised me to rather study hard, complete high school with good marks in order to get a bursary which will enable me to further my studies… I did just that. Now I have taken the opportunity afforded to me to work a holiday job, gain experience in the work place and earn some money,” explained Lerato Chere.

Her friend Makgosha Dikgare shared similar sentiments and said that it is difficult to get a job nowadays, especially in town. So she says that when they saw an opportunity to work close to home plus earning some money they seized the opportunity. “It is nice to have something to do while we are on school holidays. Growth is an ongoing process and the youth should start to start seize opportunities that are available to them instead of just saying they are waiting for that one perfect job,” she added.
The two work a local popular kota house in Extension 73 where they assist with preparing food and serving customers with their signature kotas.
