After learning of the plight of learners at Mokolo Primary School in Vaalwater, who are forced to go barefoot as their families struggle to afford basic living essentials, a national banking institution extended a helping hand by donating 250 pairs of school shoes valued at R50 000 last Tuesday.
It was reported that the donation was made in the presence of Education MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe who assisted educators to distribute the shoes to most deserving learners.
The bank’s Provincial Manager for Business Banking Limpopo and Mpumalanga, Innocent Mafahla said the donation was yet another way in which the institution is delivering on its stated purpose of using its financial expertise to do good for individuals, families, businesses and the society.
“Most learners probably don’t give footwear a second thought because they have school shoes to wear as part of their uniforms but for learners at Mokolo Primary School, shoes are a luxury most can only dream of – which is why we could simply not allow this basic need of these dedicated young people to go unanswered,” Mafahla explained.
He further said they recognise that a good education is a vital key that disadvantaged children across the country need in order to be empowered out of their economic challenges and build the bright futures they deserve.
Mafahla concluded by saying they hoped that by providing learners of Mokolo Primary School with shoes, they will have one less challenge to overcome on their journey towards the education they need.
