POLOKWANE – As part of a crime prevention strategy to help minimise criminal activities in the communities and in schools, various stakeholders recently visited Westenburg Secondary School.
SAPS Westenburg, Departments of Social Development and Correctional Services, along with the Correctional Services parole ambassador addressed issues relating to crime. These included theft, minors in conflict with the law, gangsterism, bullying and drug abuse.
Principal of the school, Bettie Boom said the visit is a good initiative as learners are exposed to a lot crime related activities. The visit sheds some light for the youth on some of the negative impacts of indulging in such activities, as well as the repercussions thereof. The parole ambassador spoke about his journey, while in prison and also touched on some of the challenges he faced and what lessons he learnt.
The stakeholders plan to visit more schools in order to ensure safety in schools, as well as discipline-focused learners.
