Man (39) in court for allegedly bribing a police officer to release a suspected stolen vehicle

It is alleged he attempted to bribe a officer at the Seshego Vehicle Identification System unit (VIS)

POLOKWANE – A 39-year-old man was arrested on Monday after attempting to bribe a police officer  with R500 to release a suspected stolen vehicle released from the police premises.

In a statement released, Spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Matimba Maluleke said the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit were notified and the man was arrested after he handed over the bribe.”

“The suspect allegedly offered R500 to a officer in an attempt to get a suspected stolen vehicle released from the Seshego Vehicle Identification System unit (VIS).  The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit immediately reacted and the suspect was arrested at the VIS premises after he handed over the money to the officer.”

The suspect has since appeared before the Seshego Magistrate Court on a charge of attempted bribery and was remanded in custody until 6 June for formal bail application, Maluleke concluded.
