As a way of creating a platform for heads of schools to share ideas that would lead their respective learning institutions in the right direction, the South African Principals Association’s (Sapa) Capricorn District held a conference at a hospitality venue in the city last Thursday and Friday.
The gathering, attended by approximately 50 heads of schools, was guided by the theme ‘Connecting leaders, creating the future’.
Topics that were covered in the space of two days included the purpose of the policy on Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (Sias), good practice in schools, the fourth industrial revolution in education, violence and safety in schools.
Sapa Capricorn District chairperson Tseleng Ledwaba indicated that they were living up to the association’s motto ‘Together we lead’ and stated that the topics were relevant to what they do in schools. She outlined the purpose of the conference as being an opportunity for heads of schools to learn from one another and come up with ways to improve the standard of education. Ledwaba added that the district conference is hosted annually ahead of the provincial event scheduled to take place in Steelpoort in August and the national gathering set for September in Mpumalanga.
She was satisfied with the number of attendees and commented that the gathering had been fruitful and informative. Ledwaba concluded by expressing confidence that the attendees would implement what they have learnt at the conference at their various schools to simplify and enhance teaching and learning.
