Don’t let the cold weather stop you from helping to save lives – donate this winter
Limpopo branch is targeted to collect a certain number of units, however, the forecast is 30 units below that target.
POLOKWANE – Winter months are synonymous with freezing weather, scarfs, jackets and boots. Unfortunately it is also synonymous with colds and flu and according to Bethuel Mokonyane, collection manager at the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), this is the reason why people do not donate blood during winter months.

“During the winter months we do not collect enough blood due to donors having cold’s and flu. Limpopo branch is targeted to collect a certain number of units, however, the forecast is 30 units below that target. To make sure we collect enough I need to make sure to collect 10% more of the required target.”
Mokonyane says that there are action plans in place, but he also makes an appeal to readers to go and donate blood.
“During the first week of July we increased our targets at the mobile clinics as well as the SANBS clinics in Limpopo. We urge more people to go and donate.”
