MEC Masemola met with community of Flora Park, Fauna Park and Serala View to discuss the issue of crime in the area. Among other issues discussed was the closure of the facilities at the Flora Park dam and a planned meeting with the leadership of the city to address the by-laws.

POLOKWANE – MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Dickson Masemola attended a community meeting at Serala View Reformed Church on 16 July, to address the issues of crime affecting Flora Park, Fauna Park and Serala View. Polokwane Police Station Commander, Brig Gift Makhubela and Frans Kgasago, the Provincial CPF Chairperson also attended.
According to Masemola the temporary closure of facilities at the Flora Park dam has led to a shift in criminal activities.
At the meeting several residents voiced their concerns and alerted the MEC to several criminal activities, which have not been attended to by the police.
Masemola called on residents with information regarding criminal activities in the areas to come forward and report it to the police. “Give us the information about the criminals. Tell us about houses in which these said activities take place. The police will be there.”
The MEC further announced that a decision has been taken to meet with the leadership of the city to address the by-laws. “With no proper by-laws the police have no authority to do their work.”
He concluded and called on residents to stand together and work with the police to eradicate crime in the city. “Crime affects everyone, we cannot afford to surrender out freedom to criminals who are out to destroy our communities.”
