Miss Bachelorette’s donation came at the right time, says Thy Rest founder

POLOKWANE – Ekuphumleni Restoration Home, also known as Thy Rest, recently received a donation from Miss Bachelorette South Africa 2019.
The pageant took place in April and handed over a cheque of R100 000 on 27 April. The money was used to buy bricks and other building material which was handed over to Thy Rest in Seshego Zone 8, on Saturday.

Thy Rest founder, Nobesuphu Javu, said Miss Bachelorette chose the centre and visited them to see what type of project they could do for them.

“They came at the right time because we need to build offices. We don’t have an office in the centre and therefore needed to use the lounge as an office. They also paved our yard. We need to build offices as there is no privacy between the home and the offices and we deal with sensitive issues such as sexual abuse. When we do counselling, people have to go outside and we run the risk of other people hearing confidential information. This project will ensure that there is privacy,” said Javu.

Miss Bachelorette South Africa 2019, Makgoshi Maponyane, said: “This particular pageant stands for independence. Thy Rest is a home for rape and abuse victims and rehabilitation for commercial sex workers. Thy Rest is trying to make a difference and it is an honour for us to be on board to help with this project and making a difference,” said Maponyane.
