373 arrested during female-led Operation Basadi

295 of those who were arrested, were in contravention of the Immigration Act.

LIMPOPO – The women in blue were acknowledged for their efforts in the fight against crime during Operation Basadi which took place in Musina early on Wednesday.

Accompanied by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner Responsible for Human Resources Management, Major General Christine Moralakadi and the police Tzaneen Cluster Commander, Major General Maggy Mathebula, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Namane Dickson Masemola led the operation which covered Musina, the Beitbridge Border post and surrounding areas.

Operation Basadi was conducted through stop-and-searches with the main focus in tracing wanted suspects, roadblocks, intensive patrols and raiding of unlicensed businesses. The operation consisted of female officers from various SAPS. They were joined by other law enforcement partners from the provincial and municipal traffic services and the SANDF.

Successes made during the operation included 373 suspects arrested:

One for residential burglary
One for business burglary
One for assault with intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm
One for common assault
One for general theft
One for theft out of a motor vehicle
295 under the Immigration Act
67 for violating the Road Traffic Act

In addition to the arrests, seven vehicles were impounded and a suspect was arrested for harbouring after attempting to ferry a two-year-old child from Zimbabwe to South Africa.

The MEC and his entourage also participated in a roadblock along the N1 road near the Beitbridge Port of Entry.
