The video, which went viral last week, shows the man hitting both male and female learners while learners can be heard laughing in the background. In a statement released, Spokesperson, Sam Makondo says the department has completed investigations and disciplinary action will be taken against the man.

“The principal of the school has been served with a letter of precautionary suspension from duty and charged with misconduct for administering corporal punishment to learners. The precautionary suspension is to ensure that he does not interfere with the learners as chief witnesses or get intimidated by his presence on school premises,’ he said.

Makondo added that the department does not tolerate any of its educators administering corporal punishment to learners.

“Corporal punishment is outlawed in our schools and no longer plays a part in the disciplining of learners,” he concluded.
