[WATCH] Female offenders celebrate Women’s Month in song and dance

Women at the Department of Correctional Services in Limpopo celebrated Women’s Month at the Polokwane Correctional Facility from 28 - 29 August.

POLOKWANE – Inmates from the Matatshe Correctional Center in Thohoyandou entertained the guests with music and dances. (See a video of one of these performances below)

On Thursday, 28 September ex-offenders were given the opportunity to share their experiences. One of these woman Dorothy Mokwena recited a moving poem on her life in prison.

The poem details the life she had before she was incarcerated. She speaks about how life was stacked against her which was what paved her way to a life of crime. Speaking on her life in the cells she mentions how she was a tough nut to crack as she had no remorse for what she had done. At the end of the poem Dorothy speaks of the change in her mindset led by the faith she was exposed to while in prison. “I am a conqueror and I am great” she says.
